First, we’d like to acknowledge the value of mental health and substance use treatment programs in terms of their role for helping people to stabilize and hopefully begin to reverse the decline. However, treatment programs in themselves are not the complete answer for helping people to recover, as their length of engagement is overall pretty short. This is primarily because of the insurance industry dictating when they will stop paying for treatment.
Most people who achieve sustainable change do so through prolonged engagement, support, and practices.
